As you probably know, as well as the new trilogy Disney will be producing three stand-alone SW films, dubbed the 'Anthology' series. Currently in production is Rogue One, slated for release 15th December this year. An as-yet untitled movie about a young Han Solo is due for 25th May 2018, whilst a third film, about which nothing is known, will follow that - presumably in 2020.
Rogue One is set shortly before ANH and concerns the Rebels' attempts to capture the plans for the Death Star. Other than that little is known of the plot (I'm guessing something loosely based on a 'heist movie' format). British actress Felicity Jones (Oscar-nominated for her role in The Theory of Everything, although I still know her best as Emma Grundy from The Archers!) will play the lead, and it has been reported that Darth Vader will appear, possibly voiced once more by James Earl Jones!!.
The second movie will be very hard to pull off. The Prequels got away with successfully recasting Obi Wan Kenobi (I say successfully, because as far as I tell Ewan McGregor's performance is one of the few things that even many hardline critics of the Prequels like). However, there was supposed to be around 20 years between ROTS and ANH, when Kenobi was a white-bearded old man. The Anthology movie will apparently be set no more than about ten years before ANH. There will be a lot of pressure on whoever they cast as Solo (especially having brought Harrison Ford back only a couple of years earlier) and I think the movie could very well stand or fall on their performance.
We know nothing about the third movie, though there have been persistent rumours it will concern Boba Fett. That excites me, as I am a big fan of his (yes, I know it's illogical for such a minor role!) but it would be interesting to see what they do with him (hopefully as an anti-hero type). Again, it would need careful casting. Revoicing him for the Special Editions was a mistake, IMO. It made a certain sense, given he was now a clone of Jango Fett, and I have no objection to his new accent in principal, but Temuera Morrison just failed to capture the spirit of the original in his voice work - that cold growl, with a hint of insolence when speaking to Vader.
In any case, exciting times to be a Star Wars fan!
